Piyush Goyal Holds Talks with Zurich Airport International MD on Noida Airport Investment Plans

Commerce Minister Reviews Investment Roadmap for Noida International Airport

New Delhi, Feb  27 : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met Daniel Bircher, Managing Director of Zurich Airport International AG, to discuss ongoing and prospective investments, with a key focus on the Noida International Airport project.

In a social media post, Goyal described the meeting as productive, noting that their discussions centered on strengthening collaboration and advancing infrastructure development aligned with India’s long-term growth vision. He said the partnership reflects the country’s push toward building world-class facilities as part of its “Viksit Bharat 2047” roadmap.

The Noida International Airport, being developed as a greenfield project under a public-private partnership between the Uttar Pradesh government and Zurich Airport International AG, is positioned to become a major aviation hub for the Delhi-NCR region. Designed with a focus on sustainability, the facility aims to operate with net-zero emissions while combining Swiss operational standards with Indian service excellence.

In its first phase, the airport will feature a single runway and a terminal capable of handling 12 million passengers annually. Over four planned phases, capacity is projected to expand to 70 million passengers per year. Located about 75 km from Delhi, it will serve as the NCR’s second international gateway after Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The project is also expected to boost regional development, generate approximately one lakh direct and indirect jobs, and enhance cargo and logistics capabilities. Connectivity plans include multiple road links, rapid rail and metro integration, and pod taxi systems. A CAT-III B Instrument Landing System will enable flight operations even during low-visibility conditions.

Once operational, the airport is expected to ease congestion at Delhi’s primary airport and strengthen aviation and economic infrastructure across western Uttar Pradesh.
