PM Modi Advises Students to Prioritize Life Skills Alongside Academic Marks
At the 9th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026’, PM Modi emphasizes balanced learning, self-development, and responsible use of digital tools.
New Delhi, Feb 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday encouraged students to go beyond just marks and cultivate life skills alongside academic knowledge. Speaking at the ninth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026, he advised youngsters not to waste time online merely because data is cheap, but to focus on meaningful learning and personal growth.
“Education should not be a burden. Half hearted learning does not lead to success. Our goals should be within reach but not easily attainable. Tame your mind, connect it, and prioritize your subjects. Success will follow,” Modi told students who had traveled from across the country to his residence.
He cautioned against excessive gaming for fun, highlighting that those who pursue it for money risk their future. “Gaming can be a skill, testing alertness and reflexes, but do not indulge aimlessly. Online gambling is prohibited by law,” he added.
Embracing Individual Styles and Balanced Growth
Modi stressed the importance of recognizing personal learning styles. “Some study better in the morning, others at night. Follow what suits you, but also take advice that adds value to your life structure,” he said. He shared that even the Pariksha Pe Charcha format has evolved over the years while maintaining its core principles.
He also highlighted the role of teachers in pacing students’ learning to keep them ahead and urged students to balance studies, hobbies, rest, and skill development. “Life skills and professional skills go hand in hand. Skill begins with knowledge,” he said.
Focusing on the Present, Not the Past
Reflecting on life lessons, Modi said, “Don’t dwell on the past. Focus on what lies ahead and make the most of it.” He emphasized that education should enhance life and not just test performance in classrooms.
Record-Breaking Student Engagement
At the event, Modi welcomed students with an Assamese Gamosa. The 9th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha was also screened at the Bal Yogi Auditorium in Parliament. Launched in 2018, the initiative has grown into one of India’s largest education engagement programs, with registrations rising from 38.8 lakh in 2023 to over 4.5 crore in 2026, setting a new Guinness World Record.
Through the discussion, Modi encouraged students to approach exams with confidence, positivity, and a broader perspective on learning that extends beyond marks.
