Match Summary

After South Africa opted to bowl first, India built a strong foundation through a century partnership between Smriti Mandhana (45 off 58) and Shafali Verma (87 off 78). Verma’s aggressive stroke play, supported by Jemimah Rodrigues (24 off 37), powered India to 166/2.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20 off 29) and Deepti Sharma (58 off 58) added a vital 52-run stand, while Richa Ghosh (34 off 24) provided a late flourish to take India to 298/7 in 50 overs.

For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka (3/58) was the pick of the bowlers.

During the chase, Laura Wolvaardt’s fighting century (101 off 98) kept the Proteas in contention, but India’s bowling attack, led by Deepti Sharma’s five wicket haul, sealed the historic win by bundling out South Africa for 246 runs.

Deepti became the first Indian woman to claim a five-wicket haul in a World Cup final, as India lifted their first ever ICC Women’s World Cup trophy, marking a golden chapter in Indian cricket.
