PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia, Mourns Victims of Udhampur Road Tragedy

Financial assistance annoucement for victims’ families as Prime Minister prays for recovery of injured in Jammu and Kashmir accident

Jammu, Apr 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, extending condolences to the bereaved families and announcing financial relief for those affected.

Reacting to the incident, the Prime Minister said he was deeply pained by the fatalities caused by the bus mishap. He conveyed his sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident.

In a message shared publicly, Modi stated that ex-gratia assistance would be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to support the victims’ families during this difficult time.

According to the announcement, an amount of ₹2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each deceased victim, while those injured in the accident will receive ₹50,000 as immediate financial aid.

The accident, which occurred in the hilly terrain of Udhampur, has once again highlighted concerns over road safety in mountainous regions, where narrow roads and  driving conditions often contribute to such incidents.

Local authorities have initiated rescue and relief operations, ensuring that the injured are receiving necessary medical care. Officials are also investigating the cause of the accident to determine whether mechanical failure, driver error, or road conditions played a role.

The Prime Minister’s swift response and announcement of compensation underline the government’s commitment to providing immediate support to victims of unforeseen tragedies.
