PM Modi Calls Creation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority a Historic Move

Tripartite pact aims to boost development and inclusive growth in six eastern Nagaland districts

New Delhi, Feb 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described the tripartite agreement to establish the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) as “historic,” highlighting the government’s commitment to peace, development, and inclusive progress in the northeastern region.

“This landmark agreement will significantly enhance the development trajectory of Eastern Nagaland,” Modi said in a post on X.

The FNTA will be formed through a tripartite pact signed between the Union Government, the Nagaland state administration, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation. The authority is designed to address longstanding developmental and administrative demands in the region.

Modi added, “I am confident this initiative will open new avenues of opportunity and prosperity for the people. It reflects our sustained commitment to peace, progress, and inclusive growth in the Northeast.”

The agreement, signed on Thursday in the presence of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, provides for the creation of the FNTA for six districts Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak, and Shamator. The authority will be empowered with devolved administrative powers over 46 subjects, aiming to accelerate local governance and development initiatives.

Officials said the FNTA marks a significant step toward strengthening regional autonomy while ensuring coordinated progress across eastern Nagaland.
