PM Modi Calls for Government-Auto Industry Collaboration to Achieve Self-Reliance Across Entire Value Chain

Prime Minister highlights opportunities in green and smart mobility, praises SIAM for fostering industry-policy dialogue.

New Delhi, Sep 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasized the importance of close collaboration between the government and the automobile industry to achieve “true self-reliance” across India’s entire manufacturing value chain, as the nation advances toward the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

In a written address to the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Modi underscored the growing opportunities for investment and innovation as India positions itself as a global leader in green and smart transportation. The message was read out by SIAM President Shailesh Chandra.

“The automobile industry has not only improved mobility and quality of life but has also been a torchbearer of the Make in India initiative, boosting global confidence in Indian manufacturing and positioning India as a hub of automotive excellence,” Modi said.

The prime minister added that India is rapidly moving toward a future-ready transportation ecosystem, powered by modern technology and world-class infrastructure. Highlighting sustainability, he noted that the sector is increasingly embracing green technologies, electric vehicles, and sustainable alternatives, creating opportunities in design, production, and deployment.

Modi also praised the role of startups, particularly in energy storage, and lauded SIAM for facilitating a vibrant dialogue among policymakers, manufacturers, and researchers on critical challenges, including emissions, safety, and infrastructure.

“Collaboration between the government and industry is essential to achieve self-reliance in the entire automobile manufacturing value chain while advancing India’s clean mobility goals,” Modi concluded.
