PM Modi Hails ‘Fruitful Interaction’ With Indian Origin Tech Leaders in Johannesburg
PM Modi urges global tech innovators of Indian origin to deepen collaboration with India
Johannesburg, Nov 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (local time) held a “fruitful interaction” with Indian origin tech entrepreneurs in Johannesburg, encouraging them to strengthen their engagement with India and expand collaborations across emerging sectors.
During the meeting, PM Modi discussed innovations in FinTech, social media platforms, agriculture, education, healthcare, medical devices and other technology driven areas.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Called upon them to deepen their engagement with India and work closely with our people.”
Eight tech founders attended the interaction, including Jatin Bhatia, creator of the social media platform Explurger, launched in India in 2021. Bhatia said the app now has over 2 crore users across 75 countries.
Sharing his experience, Bhatia noted that the Prime Minister engaged like a tech innovator rather than a political leader.
“He asked the right questions… his suggestions were visionary. It felt like talking to a fellow tech entrepreneur,” he said, adding that PM Modi emphasised his vision of boosting tourism and digital innovation.
PM Modi is attending the G20 Summit in Johannesburg from November 21 to 23—the first G20 edition hosted on the African continent. This marks his fourth visit to South Africa, following earlier trips in 2016, 2018 and 2023.
South Africa’s G20 presidency, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” continues the Global South’s leadership after Indonesia, India and Brazil. The G20 represents 85% of global GDP and 75% of world trade, making this summit a key platform for advancing India’s priorities and strengthening ties across the Global South.
