PM Modi Hails Indian Squash Team After Historic World Cup Triumph

PM says historic triumph will inspire youth and boost squash’s popularity in India

New Delhi, Dec 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian squash team for making history by clinching their maiden World Cup title at the SDAT Squash World Cup 2025, held in Chennai.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister praised Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthil Kumar and Anahat Singh for their “tremendous dedication and determination,” saying their landmark victory has filled the nation with pride.

“This win will also boost the popularity of squash among our youth,” Modi said, underlining the broader impact of the team’s achievement on the growth of the sport in India.

India defeated top-seeded Hong Kong 3-0 in the final on Sunday evening. Veteran Joshna Chinappa gave India a strong start with a 3-1 win over world No. 37 Lee Ka Yi, followed by a dominant 3-0 victory by India’s top-ranked men’s player Abhay Singh (world No. 29) against Alex Lau.

Teenage sensation Anahat Singh sealed the title for India with a commanding 3-0 win over Tomato Ho, completing a clean sweep in the summit clash.
