PM Modi Hails Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan as ‘Pathway to Lasting Peace’

Indian prime minister expresses hope that all parties will back US-led initiative for West Asia stability

New Delhi, Sep 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, describing it as a “viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development” for both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as the wider West Asian region.

In a post on X, Modi said he hoped that all concerned parties would support Trump’s initiative and work towards securing peace in the conflict-hit territory. His remarks came shortly after the White House unveiled the peace proposal following Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.

According to the plan, the Gaza Strip would be deradicalised and redeveloped, with the war ending immediately if both sides accept the terms. Israeli forces would withdraw to agreed positions and suspend all military operations, while Hamas would be required to release hostages and return the remains of the deceased within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance of the deal.

In exchange, Israel would release 250 prisoners serving life sentences and free 1,700 Gazans detained after the October 7, 2023 attacks, including women and children. For every Israeli hostage whose remains are returned, Israel would release the remains of 15 Palestinians.

Trump and Netanyahu, however, stressed that if Hamas rejects the deal, military operations would continue until the militant group is dismantled.
