PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

Modi, Lula Hold Wide-Ranging Talks in New Delhi During State Visit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva held Modi Lula bilateral talks in the national capital on Saturday, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two countries.

President Lula was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he received a Guard of Honour. He was welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi before proceeding for formal discussions at Hyderabad House.

During his visit, the Brazilian leader also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior officials.

On Friday, President Lula inaugurated the first office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) in New Delhi, aimed at promoting Brazilian goods and attracting foreign investment into key sectors of Brazil’s economy.

Brazil’s Ambassador to India, Kenneth da Nobrega, described the summit-level engagement as a historic moment for the Global South, highlighting the growing personal rapport between the two leaders. He noted that President Lula has arrived with the largest ever Brazilian delegation to India, including over 11 cabinet ministers and more than 300 business representatives, among them 50 CEOs.

The visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Brasilia in July 2025  the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Brazil in more than five decades  underscoring the renewed momentum in bilateral cooperation. Business leaders accompanying the delegation are expected to participate in a dedicated forum aimed at boosting trade and investment collaboration.
