PM Modi Honors Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on His Birth Anniversary

Honouring the Fearless Champion of Democracy and Social Justice

New Delhi, Oct 11 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid homage to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary, calling him one of India’s most fearless voices of conscience and a tireless advocate for democracy and social justice.

Highlighting Loknayak JP’s lifelong commitment to empowering citizens and strengthening constitutional values, PM Modi wrote on X, “On his birth anniversary, I pay homage to Loknayak JP, one of India’s most fearless voices of conscience and a tireless champion of democracy and social justice.”

Loknayak JP’s call for Sampoorna Kranti sparked a nationwide movement advocating equality, ethics, and good governance. His leadership during the politically turbulent 1970s played a crucial role in safeguarding India’s democratic principles.

JP inspired mass movements, particularly in Bihar and Gujarat, that awakened civil society and challenged the central government during the Emergency. PM Modi, reflecting on his own early political influences, noted that he was inspired by JP’s ideals and actively participated in anti-Emergency activities in Gujarat.

During his imprisonment, Loknayak JP’s Prison Diary recorded his resilience and unwavering faith in democracy: “Every nail driven into the coffin of Indian democracy is like a nail driven into my heart.” His writings remain a testament to his steadfast commitment to justice, democracy, and citizen empowerment.

This birth anniversary serves as a reminder of Loknayak JP’s enduring legacy in shaping India’s democratic and social landscape.
