PM Modi Inaugurates Three Modernized Railway Stations in Andhra Pradesh Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

KOCHI, July 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated three newly redeveloped railway stations in Andhra Pradesh to the nation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), marking another milestone in the Centre’s mission to modernise India’s railway infrastructure. The inauguration formed part of a nationwide programme in which 75 upgraded railway stations were unveiled across different states.

The stations at Rayanapadu, Mangalagiri, and Cumbum have undergone extensive redevelopment at a combined investment of nearly Rs 50 crore. The initiative is designed to transform railway stations into modern, passenger-friendly transport hubs while preserving the unique architectural identity and cultural heritage of their respective regions.

The revamped stations now feature contemporary station buildings equipped with improved passenger amenities and enhanced public spaces. Spacious waiting halls, upgraded sanitation facilities, better platform shelters, digital information displays, energy-efficient lighting systems, and standardised signage have been introduced to offer commuters a more comfortable and seamless travel experience.

A major highlight of the redevelopment is the emphasis on accessibility. Wide 12-metre foot overbridges have been constructed wherever necessary, with provisions for lifts to ensure barrier-free movement for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and passengers carrying luggage. These improvements are expected to make station navigation safer and more convenient while reducing congestion during peak travel hours.

Officials from the Ministry of Railways stated that the redevelopment project has been carried out under the broader vision of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, an ambitious national programme focused on upgrading railway stations with world-class infrastructure and improved passenger services. Rather than limiting improvements to cosmetic changes, the scheme seeks comprehensive transformation by integrating better transport connectivity, sustainable design, and modern technology.

The three Andhra Pradesh stations have also been redesigned to strengthen multimodal transport integration, making it easier for travellers to connect with buses, taxis, and other local transport services. Improved circulation areas and better traffic management are expected to reduce congestion around station premises and enhance the overall commuter experience.

Railway authorities believe the upgraded facilities will significantly benefit thousands of passengers using these stations every day. Enhanced amenities, better accessibility, and improved operational efficiency are likely to increase public confidence in rail travel while encouraging greater use of public transportation.
