PM Modi Marks 7 Years of Ayushman Bharat, Showcases Transformative Healthcare Impact
PM Modi highlights Ayushman Bharat’s success in expanding affordable healthcare access and reducing financial stress on millions of Indians.
New Delhi, Sept 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday marked the seventh anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), underlining its transformative role in India’s healthcare sector. Launched in 2018, the scheme has significantly expanded access to affordable medical care while reducing the financial burden on millions of families.
Since its inception, 35.4 crore Ayushman cards have been issued, enabling 7.79 crore hospital admissions across the country. In a push for gender equity, 49% of cards have been issued to women, while the scheme’s portability feature has facilitated 11.9 lakh hospitalisations beyond state boundaries.
Highlighting its impact, PM Modi said Ayushman Bharat has not only ensured financial protection but also preserved the dignity of beneficiaries. By providing cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals nationwide, the scheme has helped reduce catastrophic out-of-pocket medical expenses, a key factor pushing nearly 6 crore Indians into poverty annually.
Calling it a healthcare revolution, the Prime Minister tweeted: “Today we mark #7YearsOfAyushmanBharat! This initiative anticipated future needs and ensured affordable, quality healthcare for all. Thanks to it, India is witnessing a revolution in public healthcare.”
With its wide reach and comprehensive benefits, Ayushman Bharat continues to stand as the world’s largest government-funded healthcare programme.
