PM Modi Praises Blind Women’s Cricket Team, Says Their Success Inspires the Nation
PM Modi interacts with India’s T20 World Cup winning Blind Women’s Cricket Team, praising their grit, confidence and historic achievement
India, Nov 28 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hosted India’s inaugural T20 World Cup-winning Blind Women’s Cricket Team at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg, showering them with praise for their remarkable achievement and unwavering determination.
Welcoming the players and coaching staff along with the World Cup trophy, PM Modi personally offered sweets to each team member and engaged in a warm, light-hearted conversation with the squad, including captain Deepika.
Congratulating the champions, he told them, “Those who work hard and move forward, their efforts never go in vain — not just on the field but in life as well.” The team also presented the Prime Minister with a signed cricket bat as a token of gratitude.
PM Modi noted that the historic victory had greatly boosted the players’ confidence. “Your self-confidence must have grown too. Earlier you may have hesitated to talk to your teacher, but today you are speaking to the Prime Minister,” he said with a smile.
He added that interacting with the team fills him with pride, as their achievements symbolise the nation’s accelerating progress and the courage of its youth. “Whenever I meet you all, I feel proud seeing how far our country is progressing and how much courage these children have,” he remarked.
In a humorous moment, PM Modi compared the team’s dominant performance to electoral politics. “Just like in elections when the opponent’s deposit gets forfeited… you all sent some teams back in just 10 overs. Why are you so ruthless?” he joked, prompting laughter from the players.
India created history by winning the first ever Blind Women’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final. The team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had posted on X, hailing their achievement as a “historic sporting feat” and a shining example of “hard work, teamwork and determination,” adding that their victory will inspire coming generations.
