PM Modi Assures Jammu and Kashmir of Approaching Statehood and Assembly Elections, Aims to Bridge Historical Divides and Foster New Generation Prosperity
Srinagar, 20-06-2024 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reached out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, announcing that Assembly elections and the restoration of statehood will be implemented soon. Speaking at the ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event in Srinagar during his first visit after being sworn in for a third consecutive term, Modi assured that the time is near when the people of J&K will elect their new representatives through democratic voting.
Modi emphasized the significance of local representation, stating that the election of local representatives would enable the people to address and solve their problems more effectively. He affirmed, “Preparations for the Assembly elections have already begun. The day is approaching when you will elect a new government for Jammu and Kashmir with your votes. Soon, J&K will once again take charge of its future as a state.”
Highlighting his commitment to uniting the region with the rest of the country, Modi expressed his efforts to bridge the emotional and administrative distances between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. “I am working to connect the hearts of people in Delhi with those in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, emphasizing his dedication to ensuring a cohesive and integrated nation.
Reflecting on the troubled past that previous generations in Kashmir have endured, Modi expressed his desire for the new generation to experience a more peaceful and prosperous future. He noted that the recent changes and high voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections are a testament to the progress and development brought about by the BJP’s efforts over the past decade.
“The dismantling of Article 370 has paved the way for the full implementation of the Indian Constitution in J&K,” Modi stated, underscoring the positive impact of this change. He highlighted that the benefits of the Constitution are now being realized in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Srinagar on Thursday afternoon for a two-day visit, with heightened security measures in place to ensure a safe and successful trip.
