PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi Lead Nation in Paying Homage to Pulwama Victims

Nation remembers the 40 CRPF personnel killed in the 2019 Pulwama attack, with leaders across parties honouring their courage and sacrifice.

New Delhi, Feb 14 : Six years after the devastating Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Opposition leaders paid homage to the martyrs on Saturday, recalling their bravery and sacrifice. The February 14 anniversary continues to evoke a profound sense of national grief and reflection on India’s fight against terrorism.

In a message on X, PM Modi said, “Remembering the brave heroes who laid down their lives in Pulwama on this day in 2019. Their devotion, resolve, and service to the nation remain forever etched in our collective consciousness. Every Indian draws strength from their enduring courage.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also honoured the fallen soldiers, stating that the nation will remain “forever indebted” to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of India. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described the soldiers’ courage as “eternal” and said their memory will always be preserved in the country’s collective consciousness.

The 2019 attack, executed by a suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, remains one of the deadliest strikes on Indian security forces in recent memory. Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed had claimed responsibility for the attack, which triggered national outrage and heightened India-Pakistan tensions.

Since then, February 14 has been observed across India as a day of remembrance, with memorials and tributes recognising the valor and sacrifice of the 40 CRPF personnel who lost their lives. Leaders and citizens continue to honour their legacy, ensuring that their courage remains “forever etched” in the nation’s memory.
