PM Modi Releases Funds for 6,200 Schools Under PM SHRI Scheme to Promote Modern Education at Grassroots Level
29-07-2023 : On the occasion of the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first instalment of funds amounting to Rs 630 crore under the PM SHRI Scheme for 6,207 schools. The scheme aims to bring modern education to the grassroots level and uplift the education system in the country. Coinciding with the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020, the event also witnessed the release of education and skill curriculum books translated into 12 Indian languages, facilitating learning in students’ mother tongues.
During the event, PM Modi interacted with children and took a walkthrough of the exhibition showcasing innovative techniques in education. Stressing the importance of education in transforming the nation’s destiny, he mentioned that the education system plays a crucial role in achieving the goals of 21st century India.
PM Modi informed that the Cabinet has approved the introduction of the National Research Foundation Bill in Parliament and the National Curriculum Framework under the NEP will be introduced soon. He also highlighted that new books in around 130 different subjects are being developed for classes 3 to 12 in 22 different languages, promoting education in regional languages.
Emphasizing the significance of education in one’s mother tongue, PM Modi mentioned that it is a step towards social justice and a new form of justice for students in India. He pointed out that many developed nations have gained an edge by promoting their local languages, and India too is recognizing the importance of its diverse languages.
The Prime Minister commended the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam for providing a platform for discussion and dialogue to advance the country’s education system. He praised the amalgamation of ancient and modern education at the event, emphasizing that India’s educational system preserves its traditions while rapidly progressing in the field of science and technology.
PM Modi thanked the intellectuals, academicians, and teachers for their contributions to the education sector. He highlighted the transformative changes brought about by the National Education Policy, including the shift from the 10+2 system to the 5+3+3+4 system, which brings uniformity in education across the country.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of equality in education, extending it to resources and opportunities. He mentioned various initiatives to bridge the gap and provide equal opportunities for all, such as Eklavya Schools in tribal villages, internet facilities in rural areas, and vocational education integration.
Highlighting the increasing global reputation of India’s education system, PM Modi noted the rise in Indian institutes’ rankings and the interest from global universities to open campuses in India. He reminded the teachers of their responsibility in acquainting students with the importance of India’s cultural heritage, including Yoga, Ayurveda, art, and literature.
In conclusion, PM Modi stressed the significance of the current generation of students in India’s journey towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ in 2047, and the role of education in shaping a progressive and empowered nation.
