PM Modi Says Govt Taking Steps to Shield Citizens from Global Conflicts, Accuses Congress of Spreading Panic
Prime Minister says Centre focused on protecting citizens from global crises while boosting development in Assam’s Barak Valley.
Silchar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Union government is working to shield citizens from the effects of ongoing global conflicts, while accusing the Indian National Congress of attempting to spread fear and misinformation.
Addressing a public gathering in Silchar in Assam, Modi said the government’s priority is to ensure that international tensions and wars do not adversely affect people in India. He criticised the Congress for what he described as an “irresponsible” approach, alleging that the opposition party was trying to create panic instead of acting constructively.
The prime minister also accused the Congress of neglecting the development of the Northeast for decades. Referring specifically to the Barak Valley region, he claimed that decisions taken during the time of Independence resulted in the area losing direct access to the sea, which affected its trade and economic potential.
Modi said Barak Valley had once been an important centre for commerce and industry, but alleged that the region’s growth slowed under previous Congress governments. He asserted that the current administration led by the Bharatiya Janata Party was working to revive development and expand opportunities in the region.
He further accused the Congress of misleading young people in the state in earlier decades and said the BJP government had focused on creating opportunities and ensuring stability for the youth of Assam.
Highlighting his party’s development approach, the prime minister said the government aims to prioritise communities and regions that had previously been left behind in the development process.
