PM Modi Says Key Cabinet Decisions Will Strengthen Agriculture, Sports and Energy Security

New Delhi, Aug 01 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday welcomed a series of major decisions approved by the Union Cabinet, describing them as transformative measures that will strengthen agriculture, improve sporting infrastructure, enhance energy security and accelerate the country’s clean energy transition. He said the initiatives reflect the government’s long-term vision of building a self reliant and developed India through inclusive growth and strategic investments.

In separate posts on X, the Prime Minister praised the Cabinet’s approval for extending the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme, expanding the Khelo India programme, increasing financial support to National Sports Federations, launching the National Offshore Exploration Scheme ‘Samudra Manthan’ and introducing the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana.

PM-KISAN Extended Till 2030-31

Welcoming the continuation of the PM-KISAN scheme, Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the financial well being of farmers. He said the income support programme has become an important source of assistance for cultivators by helping them meet agricultural expenses, including seeds, fertilisers and other essential inputs.

The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the flagship scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with a financial allocation of Rs 3.15 lakh crore. Introduced in 2019, the programme provides eligible landholding farmer families with Rs 6,000 annually through direct benefit transfer in three instalments.

According to official figures, more than Rs 4.47 lakh crore has already been transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through 23 instalments since the scheme’s launch.

Major Investment in Sports Development

The Prime Minister also described the expansion of the Khelo India initiative and enhanced assistance for National Sports Federations as an important milestone in strengthening India’s sports ecosystem.

He said the decision would provide young athletes with improved training facilities, better coaching, modern infrastructure and greater opportunities to excel at national and international levels.

The revamped Khelo India programme and financial assistance package have been approved with a combined outlay of Rs 36,441 crore for the period between 2026-27 and 2030-31.

The revamped programme aims to strengthen grassroots sports, establish Khelo India Feeder Schools and Khelo India Utkrishta Vidyalayas, promote scientific coaching methods, expand sports infrastructure and prepare athletes for major international competitions, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games and future Olympic campaigns.

‘Samudra Manthan’ to Strengthen Energy Security

Modi also welcomed the launch of the National Offshore Exploration Scheme ‘Samudra Manthan’, calling it a significant step towards improving India’s energy independence and unlocking offshore hydrocarbon resources.

He said the initiative would combine advanced technology, investment, skilled manpower and infrastructure development to support domestic manufacturing and reinforce the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The Cabinet has approved the scheme with an outlay of Rs 84,084 crore up to 2030-31.

The programme includes advanced seismic surveys, deepwater and ultra deepwater drilling, scientific exploration of frontier basins, expansion of offshore infrastructure and the establishment of an integrated oil and gas manufacturing and services hub.

The Centre expects the initiative to boost domestic oil and gas production, attract fresh investments, generate employment opportunities and reduce dependence on energy imports.

Floating Solar Mission Gets Cabinet Nod

The Prime Minister also appreciated the approval of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana, describing it as a major initiative to expand renewable energy capacity through floating solar projects.

He said the scheme would make productive use of reservoirs and inland water bodies while contributing to cleaner energy generation and lower carbon emissions across the country.

Approved with a financial outlay of Rs 5,070 crore, the programme aims to develop 5,000 MW of floating solar photovoltaic capacity integrated with energy storage systems.

The government estimates that the initiative will significantly increase India’s floating solar capacity, reduce nearly 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, create employment opportunities and promote domestic manufacturing of solar and energy storage equipment.

Growth Across Multiple Sectors

The latest Cabinet approvals cover key sectors including agriculture, sports, conventional energy and renewable energy, reflecting the government’s strategy of combining welfare programmes with infrastructure development, technological innovation and sustainability.

According to the Centre, these initiatives are expected to improve rural incomes, strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem, enhance long-term energy resilience, accelerate the adoption of clean energy and support the country’s vision of becoming Viksit Bharat.
