PM Modi to Join Durga Puja Festivities at CR Park’s Kali Mandir

Delhi Police issues traffic advisory as security tightened ahead of Prime Minister’s visit

New Delhi, Sep 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Durga Puja celebrations at the iconic Kali Mandir and Shiva Temple in Chittaranjan Park (CR Park), South Delhi, on Tuesday, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami.

The visit is expected to be one of the highlights of the ongoing Navratri festivities, which draw thousands of devotees to the Bengali dominated neighbourhood every year.

In preparation for the Prime Minister’s arrival, the Special Protection Group (SPG) conducted a security assessment of the area on Monday. Local residents have been asked to clear vehicles from main approach roads, while vendors and hawkers were instructed to temporarily vacate designated spots to ensure smooth movement and crowd management.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued an advisory cautioning commuters about likely congestion on arterial stretches, including the Outer Ring Road (between Panchsheel and Greater Kailash), Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, JB Tito Marg, Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg, and the CR Park Main Road. Vehicle restrictions will also apply on Gurudwara Road, Bipin Chandra Pal Marg, and several internal roads of CR Park and GK-II. Diversions have been planned from key points like Panchsheel, IIT, and Nehru Place flyovers.

To avoid disruptions, commuters have been advised to take alternative routes such as MG Road, Aurobindo Marg, Mathura Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. The restrictions will remain in effect until October 2.

The Prime Minister’s participation is being seen as a gesture of cultural solidarity and a tribute to the deep-rooted traditions of Durga Puja, one of India’s most celebrated festivals. The CR Park festivities, centred around the Kali Mandir complex established in the 1970s, are among the most prominent in the capital, featuring grand pandals, devotional rituals, and cultural programmes that attract devotees from across Delhi-NCR.
