PM Modi Visits Delhi Temple to Mark 25 Years of Public Service

Prime Minister Modi marks 25 years at the helm of government with prayers for India's prosperity and continued development.

NEW DELHI, Oct 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday offered prayers at the Shri Vinayaka Temple in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi, marking 25 years since he first assumed office as the head of a government.

Modi began his tenure as head of government on October 7, 2001, when he became the chief minister of Gujarat. He went on to serve three terms in the state before becoming prime minister after the BJP led National Democratic Alliance won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He has since secured two more terms following victories in the 2019 and 2024 general elections.

During his visit to the temple, the prime minister performed puja and sought the blessings of Lord Ganesha for the well-being and prosperity of the people.

In a post on X, Modi said he prayed for the happiness, prosperity and good health of his “family members” across the country. He also sought the blessings of Vignaharta, the remover of obstacles, and prayed that India continue advancing on the path of development.

Government sources said the temple visit was part of Modi’s observance of the milestone and reflected his renewed commitment to serving the nation with dedication.

The 25-year journey marks one of the longest uninterrupted tenures at the helm of government in Indian politics, spanning his years in Gujarat and his subsequent tenure as prime minister.
