PM Modi’s E-Auction Showcases J&K and Ladakh’s Rich Heritage Through Exclusive Mementos
Over 70 Kashmir and 5 Ladakh Artifacts Highlight Rich Cultural Heritage in PM Modi’s 2025 E-Auction
New Delhi : The seventh edition of the PM Mementos e-Auction, organised by the Ministry of Culture via the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Delhi, is currently live online from September 17 to October 2, 2025, at www.pmmementos.gov.in. This year, 71 items from Jammu and Kashmir and 5 from Ladakh take center stage, showcasing the rich artistic, cultural, and spiritual heritage of these regions, a government spokesperson confirmed.
Highlights from Jammu and Kashmir include ivory-coloured Pashmina shawls featuring multi-coloured Sozni embroidery a centuries-old needlework technique weaving intricate floral and vine motifs into soft, handwoven textiles. Another notable item is the Kani Pashmina shawl, meticulously crafted on handlooms using small wooden needles called “Kanis,” reflecting months of skilled labour and the valley’s traditional artistry.
From Ladakh, a vibrant Thangka painting scroll of Shakyamuni Buddha in Bhumisparsha mudra embodies centuries of Himalayan spiritual and artistic tradition. Additionally, a finely crafted brass Surai adorned with detailed floral motifs represents Ladakhi metalwork at its finest, making it a prized collector’s piece.
The 2025 auction features over 1,300 items, spanning regional crafts, paintings, sculptures, and sports memorabilia. All proceeds from the sale will directly support the Namami Gange Project, the Government of India’s flagship initiative for the rejuvenation of the sacred river Ganga.
