New Delhi, Nov 6 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with the ICC Women’s World Cup winning Indian cricket team turned into a moment of joy, laughter, and inspiration and quickly went viral across social media platforms.
On Wednesday, PM Modi hosted the Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad at his residence, Lok Kalyan Marg, to personally congratulate them on their historic triumph at the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. The team, dressed smartly in formal attire with medals gleaming around their necks, received warm praise from the Prime Minister for their remarkable comeback after a difficult start to the tournament.
Applauding their resilience and unity, PM Modi lauded the players for silencing critics through performance and determination. The Indian team ended their long wait for an ICC title after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
During the conversation, captain Harmanpreet Kaur fondly recalled meeting PM Modi in 2017 a meeting without a trophy and said the team was delighted to return as champions this time. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana thanked the Prime Minister for motivating the players, calling him an “inspiration for young women excelling in all fields.”

PM Modi engaged the team in a lively exchange about their on-field moments from Harleen Deol’s stunning 2021 catch against England to Amanjot Kaur’s juggling catch in the final. “After the catch, you must have been seeing not the ball, but the trophy,” PM Modi quipped, prompting laughter.
He also urged the players to become ambassadors of the Fit India movement, particularly encouraging them to inspire young girls to pursue sports and fitness. “Go to schools and motivate students. Being fit is essential not just for sport, but for life,” he told them.
Fast bowler Kranti Gaud mentioned her brother’s admiration for PM Modi, to which he warmly extended an open invitation to meet him. Even Pratika Rawal, who missed the knockouts due to an ankle injury, attended the interaction in a wheelchair a moment that underlined the team’s unity and spirit.
