PM Sharif Thanks US President Trump Again for Role in Resolving Indo-Pak Tensions

Pakistan lauds Trump’s role in May ceasefire, while India denies any third-party involvement

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again thanked US President Donald Trump for allegedly helping resolve the India-Pakistan conflict in May.

Addressing Azerbaijan’s Victory Day parade in Baku on Saturday, Sharif praised Trump’s “bold and decisive leadership” for bringing about the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, restoring peace in South Asia, averting a major war, and saving millions of lives.

Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” after a “long night” of Washington-mediated talks, he has repeatedly claimed credit for settling tensions between the two countries. India, however, has consistently denied any third-party intervention, maintaining that the ceasefire was mutually agreed upon.

The May conflict followed India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 to target terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. Pakistan has repeatedly praised Trump for his role in brokering the ceasefire.

During his address, Sharif also referenced Kashmir, stating that Azerbaijan’s victory in Karabakh serves as a beacon of hope for nations fighting oppression. He emphasised that Pakistan seeks peace but will not compromise its sovereignty or territorial integrity.

The Victory Day parade featured contingents from Pakistan and Turkey marching alongside Azerbaijani forces, as well as a flypast of JF-17 Thunder jets.
