PM to Lay Foundation Stone/Inaugurate 84 Major Projects Worth Rs 1500 Crore in Srinagar Today

JAMMU, June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate 84 major developmental projects worth more than Rs 1500 crore in Srinagar tomorrow evening. He will also launch the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors (JKCIP) project, which costs Rs 1800 crore, and distribute appointment letters to more than 2000 new government employees. This significant event will be held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).

Modi is expected to arrive in Srinagar tomorrow evening to participate in the event titled ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ at SKICC Srinagar. The next morning, on June 21, he will lead the nation in celebrating International Yoga Day before returning to the Union capital.

The projects that the Prime Minister will inaugurate encompass a range of sectors, including road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and higher education. Specifically, he will lay the foundation stone for projects aimed at improving the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri section, developing industrial estates, and constructing six government degree colleges.

The JKCIP project, which Modi will launch, is valued at Rs 1800 crore and will be implemented across 90 blocks in 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. This project aims to reach 300,000 households, benefiting approximately 15 lakh people.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on the eve of Modi’s two-day visit to Srinagar, the inauguration and launch of these projects are intended to empower the youth and upgrade infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. As part of the event, the Prime Minister will also distribute appointment letters to over 2000 individuals recently appointed to government positions.

The PMO statement emphasized the significance of the event ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K,’ which Modi will address at SKICC Srinagar at 6 PM. This event is seen as a pivotal moment for the region, showcasing progress and inspiring young achievers. During the occasion, Modi will also inspect various stalls and interact with young achievers from J&K.

On June 21 at 6:30 AM, the Prime Minister will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC Srinagar. He will address the gathering and join the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) Yoga session thereafter. The official statement highlighted the profound impact of yoga on young minds and bodies, aiming to unite thousands in the practice of yoga, promoting health and wellness on a global scale.

The PMO statement noted that since 2015, the Prime Minister has led International Yoga Day celebrations at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ underscores yoga’s dual role in fostering individual and societal well-being, encouraging grassroots participation, and promoting yoga in rural areas.

Among the projects to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister are 50 water supply schemes worth Rs 150 crore, road infrastructure projects worth Rs 54 crore, and higher education infrastructure projects costing Rs 51 crore. Additionally, advanced health equipment, including PET CT Scan, High Dose Rate Brachytherapy, and a Bio-Safety Level-3 and Genome Sequencing Lab, will be introduced at the cost of Rs 24 crore.

The foundation stone laying projects worth Rs 1000 crore include improvements to the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri section costing Rs 431 crore, the development of industrial estates with Rs 292 crore, and the construction of six government degree colleges at the cost of Rs 76 crore.
