Police Seize ₹1.25 Crore Property of Suspected Drug Trafficker in Kathua

Crackdown Targets Illegal Wealth Linked To Narcotics Trade

JAMMU, May 26: In a major action against narcotics-related crime, police attached immovable property worth nearly ₹1.25 crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the seized assets include several shops and a dhaba situated at Chapper Morh in the Hiranagar area. The property is linked to Sudesh Mehta, son of Parkash Chand, a resident of Chapper village in Kathua district.

Officials stated that the action was taken as part of the ongoing Kathua drug trafficking crackdown aimed at dismantling financial networks allegedly built through illegal narcotics activities. The attachment of assets was carried out after completing the required legal formalities under the NDPS Act.

Police authorities said the operation reflects a strict policy against individuals involved in drug smuggling and related criminal activities. They added that law enforcement agencies are not only targeting the narcotics supply chain but are also moving against properties and assets suspected to have been acquired through proceeds of the illegal trade.

The move received support from local residents, who termed the action a strong step towards curbing the growing drug menace in the region. Many people expressed hope that such measures would discourage drug trafficking and help protect the youth from substance abuse.

Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations across the district and warned that strict action would continue against those involved in narcotics networks and unlawful financial activities.
