Polish Deputy PM Sikorski Arrives in New Delhi to Strengthen India-Poland Ties
Sikorski set to hold talks with EAM Jaishankar, aims to deepen bilateral ties and explore new cooperation avenues
New Delhi, Jan 19: Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a three-day visit aimed at furthering the India-Poland Strategic Partnership. He was welcomed by Additional Secretary Pooja Kapur.
During his stay in the capital, Sikorski is scheduled to hold discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.
Before arriving in New Delhi, Sikorski visited Jaipur from January 17–18 to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival, where he participated in a session titled “A Continent in Crisis: Russia, Ukraine and the European Story”. He discussed the geopolitical and economic impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, noting that Russia is becoming increasingly dependent on China for critical goods, internet access, and cyber services.
Highlighting Europe’s security challenges, Sikorski warned that Russia is supplying North Korea with missile and nuclear technology and emphasized that the conflict poses a serious threat to continental stability. He stressed that Poland remains committed to European security, allocating 4.7% of GDP to defense.
Sikorski also drew attention to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, noting severe winter conditions, massive destruction, and civilian hardships caused by the prolonged war, which was initially presented by Russia as a three-day operation.
The visit underscores India and Poland’s intention to deepen strategic and economic ties amid a rapidly changing global security landscape.
