Cyber Cell Urges Vigilance After Rising Digital Scams; Helpline 1930 Activated for Quick Response

POONCH, Dec 1: The Cyber Cell of Poonch Police has successfully recovered ₹3.21 lakh lost to cyber frauds, offering timely relief to multiple victims who had reported online financial scams over the past month. According to officials, the complaints ranged widely across digital fraud categories, including UPI-related deceit, impersonation on social media platforms, cheating through online marketplaces, fake loan applications, OTP-based thefts, and fraudulent investment schemes promising unrealistic returns.

Police officials said victims approached the Cyber Police Station with urgent pleas for help after noticing unauthorized transactions or falling prey to deceptive messages and links. Responding promptly, the Cyber Cell activated real-time technical intervention, freezing suspicious transactions before the money could be siphoned off to mule accounts. Officers coordinated with various banks, payment gateways, and financial intermediaries to track digital trails, enabling the recovery of ₹3,21,702 within the month.

The District Police has once again urged the public to remain alert in the digital space, emphasizing that cybercriminals are using increasingly sophisticated tactics to target unsuspecting individuals. Citizens have been advised never to share personal or banking details, ignore unfamiliar links or unsolicited messages, avoid downloading suspicious apps, and verify all financial communications through official channels.

Officials encouraged residents to promptly report any cybercrime attempt or financial fraud to ensure faster response and better chances of recovery. People can lodge complaints through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or by calling the dedicated Helpline 1930, which offers immediate intervention for digital financial crimes.

Police reiterated that early reporting remains the most effective tool in preventing irreversible financial loss and strengthening the fight against cyber fraud across the district.
