President Murmu Hails Indian Armed Forces’ Bravery in Operation Sindoor
Murmu underscores decisive action against terror, expansion of social security, and launch of VB-G RAM G scheme amid parliamentary protests
New Delhi, Jan 28: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday praised the Indian armed forces for their courage and effectiveness during Operation Sindoor, noting that terror camps were destroyed using India’s own resources and emphasizing that any act of terror will be met with resolute response.
“India has shown that power can be exercised with responsibility and wisdom. The world witnessed the valour and courage of our armed forces through Operation Sindoor,” Murmu said while addressing a joint sitting of Parliament at the commencement of the Budget Session.
The President highlighted that the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and initiatives like Mission Sudarshan Chakra are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen national security. She also noted decisive action against Maoist terror, which has boosted confidence in India’s defence capabilities.
Turning to social development, Murmu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to social justice. She said nearly 95 crore citizens now benefit from social security schemes and that 25 crore Indians have moved out of poverty over the last decade. “My government is committed to true social justice,” she stated.
Murmu also emphasized India’s achievements in heritage and national unity, marking the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 150th birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda, and commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. She highlighted cultural milestones such as celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary that inspired national pride and unity.
On rural employment, the President discussed the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) scheme, which aims to guarantee 125 days of work, curb corruption, and promote rural development. Her remarks drew vocal protests from opposition MPs demanding a rollback of the Act, while treasury benches expressed support through desk thumping. Murmu paused briefly amid slogans of “vapas lo” (roll back), as opposition parties called for restoring the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in its original rights-based form.
The government maintains that the new VB-G RAM G Act will further strengthen rural employment guarantees, providing a more effective framework for work and development in villages across India.
