New Delhi, Jan 28: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday praised the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train connecting Kamakhya in Assam with Howrah in West Bengal, describing it as a major milestone for Indian Railways while addressing the joint sitting of Parliament.

In her address, the President said the new generation sleeper train reflects the Railways’ commitment to modern, passenger centric infrastructure, especially benefiting the poor and middle-class sections of society. She added that Indian Railways is close to achieving complete electrification, marking a significant step towards efficiency and sustainability.

Murmu also highlighted the expansion of rail connectivity to the Northeast, referring to the introduction of direct rail services between Delhi and Aizawl following the flagging off of the Rajdhani Express.
