In a message shared on X, the President remembered the courage of those who lost their lives during the tragic incident in 1919, describing their sacrifice as a turning point in India’s freedom struggle. She expressed confidence that their unwavering patriotism would continue to inspire citizens to serve the nation with commitment and integrity.
The massacre occurred at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, where hundreds of unarmed civilians had gathered to protest against the oppressive Rowlatt Act. British troops opened fire without warning, leaving a deep scar on the nation’s history.
Reflecting on the tragedy, President Murmu noted that the incident awakened a strong sense of unity and determination among Indians, ultimately strengthening the resolve for independence.
