Regarding M.S. Swaminathan, Modi commended his monumental contributions to agriculture and farmers’ welfare, expressing immense joy at the government’s decision to confer the Bharat Ratna upon him. Swaminathan’s pivotal role in facilitating India’s self-reliance in agriculture during challenging times and his efforts toward modernizing Indian agriculture were highlighted. Modi underscored Swaminathan’s visionary leadership, which not only transformed Indian agriculture but also ensured the nation’s food security and prosperity. The Prime Minister also acknowledged his personal acquaintance with Swaminathan, valuing his insights and inputs, as well as his role as an innovator and mentor encouraging learning and research among students.
