Bettiah (Bihar), Nov 5: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday launched a fierce attack on the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), accusing it of attempting to form the next government in Bihar through what she termed as “vote chori” (vote theft). Addressing two back-to-back rallies in Valmiki Nagar and Chanpatia in West Champaran district, the Congress general secretary alleged that the names of nearly 65 lakh voters, including a significant number of women, have been deleted from electoral rolls through what she called a “Selective Inclusion and Removal” (SIR) process.

Raising alarm over what she described as a “threat to democracy,” Priyanka Gandhi said that the prevailing political climate resembled the colonial rule of the British era. “The situation in the country today is such that we are not sure whether elections will even continue in the future. The NDA wants to rule by stealing votes, not by earning people’s trust,” she declared amid loud cheers from the gathering.

Drawing parallels with her brother Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks about alleged electoral irregularities in Haryana, she said, “My brother Rahul exposed how 25 lakh fake entries were made in Haryana’s voter list. The same conspiracy is being repeated here in Bihar. They will destroy everything if we remain silent. It’s time to raise your voice and chase them out of power.”

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, Priyanka accused him of prioritizing political optics over governance. “The Prime Minister seems more concerned about the absence of Tejashwi Yadav’s photo on Congress posters than addressing issues of corruption, unemployment, and rising crime. Ironically, he doesn’t even share the stage with Nitish Kumar, his own ally in Bihar,” she said.

She alleged that the NDA was “obsessed” with the political future of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav while ignoring the plight of Bihar’s youth. “The ruling alliance debates personalities, not policies. They talk about opposition leaders but remain silent on jobs, education, and the economic future of Bihar,” she remarked.

Highlighting the INDIA bloc’s welfare agenda, Priyanka Gandhi announced that if voted to power, the coalition would ensure free medical treatment of up to ₹25 lakh for citizens under a new health scheme. She also promised that every poor family would receive at least one government job and that the government would fill thousands of existing vacancies across departments. “This is not charity, it’s your right. We will bring governance that serves people, not corporations,” she said.

The Congress leader accused the NDA government of centralizing development in Gujarat , the home state of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah  at the expense of other states. “Every major factory is being set up in Gujarat while states like Bihar are left behind. Those who hand over public resources to corporates will never work for the poor,” she said, urging voters to “understand their real intentions.”

Priyanka Gandhi further lamented the hardships faced by farmers, saying they were burdened with high input costs and denied fair prices for their produce. “Under the Modi regime, farmers neither get MSP nor any relief from debt. They live their entire lives repaying loans while the government waives off the liabilities of a few big businessmen,” she asserted.

The Congress leader also drew attention to the state’s worsening unemployment crisis, saying that lack of opportunities was forcing thousands of youth to migrate to other states. Criticizing the Agnipath scheme for military recruitment, she said, “Under this plan, the youth will serve for just four years and then be left jobless. This is not empowerment; it’s exploitation.”

Concluding her address, Priyanka said the INDIA bloc’s vision for Bihar includes tangible steps toward social and economic justice. “We will ensure that every poor family gets either a home or 3.5 decimals of land, registered in the name of women. This is our promise  dignity, equality, and opportunity for every citizen,” she said, calling on voters to bring “real change” through their ballots.
