Priyanka Gandhi Says PM Modi Is “No Longer the Leader He Once Was”
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi criticises Modi’s policies, confidence, and remarks on Vande Mataram in Lok Sabha debate
New Delhi, Dec 9: Congress Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi on Monday delivered a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha, stating that he is “no longer the PM he once was” and questioning the efficacy of his policies and leadership.
“The truth is that Modi is no longer the Prime Minister he once was. His self-confidence is declining, his policies are weakening the country, and my colleagues in power remain silent because, deep down, they too agree. Today, the people are unhappy, distressed, and surrounded by problems that are going unresolved,” Priyanka Gandhi said.
The Congress leader also targeted the BJP over the ongoing Vande Mataram debate, accusing the ruling party of arrogance and claiming that PM Modi’s assertion that parts of the national song were “cut by a divisive mindset” insults India’s freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Rajendra Prasad, B.R. Ambedkar, Maulana Azad, Sardar Patel, and Subhas Chandra Bose.
Priyanka Gandhi defended the legacy of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, highlighting his contributions to nation-building and scientific advancements. “Jawaharlal Nehru ji spent nearly 12 years in jail for India’s independence and served as Prime Minister for 17 years. He established ISRO, DRDO, and AIIMS foundations that helped India achieve milestones like Mangalyaan and tackle crises like COVID-19,” she said.
The remarks came amid a heated Lok Sabha discussion on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, where PM Modi accused Congress of insulting the national song and compromising with the Muslim League, claiming that Nehru “did a tukde-tukde of Vande Mataram.” The debate, spanning both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, is scheduled for a total of 10 hours, with proceedings continuing on Tuesday, December 9.
