New Delhi, Jan 30 : Rajya Sabha member and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha’s husband, V Srinivasan, died early Friday following a sudden medical emergency at his residence in Payyoli, Kerala. Family sources said Srinivasan felt unwell around midnight and collapsed shortly afterward. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Usha, who was in New Delhi attending Parliament, is returning to Kerala and is expected to reach her hometown soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called her to convey condolences, expressing sympathy and praying for strength during this “irreparable loss.”
A native of Ponnani in Malappuram district, Srinivasan had a background in sports as a kabaddi player before joining the Central Industrial Security Force. Known for his disciplined and soft spoken nature, he remained a quiet support throughout Usha’s celebrated athletic career and her later roles in public life and sports administration.
The couple, married since 1991, is survived by their son, Dr Ujjwal Vighnesh. Tributes have poured in from political leaders, athletes, and sports administrators, highlighting Srinivasan’s steadfast support behind one of India’s most iconic athletes.
