Punjab Attracts Rs 1.89 Lakh Crore Investment in Four Years, Emerges as Industrial Hub: Mann
Investment proposals led by Mohali and Ludhiana are expected to create employment opportunities for 6.31 lakh youth across the state
CHANDIGARH, Sep 25: Punjab is witnessing rapid industrial expansion, with investments worth Rs 1.89 lakh crore attracted to the state over the past four years, creating employment potential for around 6.31 lakh youth, according to an official statement issued on Friday.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reviewed the progress of the Industries Department and said the scale of investment reflected growing confidence among domestic and international investors in Punjab’s industrial ecosystem.
The state government said it has focused on improving infrastructure, simplifying approvals and strengthening governance to create a transparent and investor-friendly business environment.
Among the districts, SAS Nagar (Mohali) recorded the highest value of new investment proposals through Common Application Forms (CAFs) during 2022-23 to 2026-27, with proposals worth Rs 9,478 crore. Ludhiana followed with Rs 4,968 crore, while Patiala and Hoshiarpur recorded proposals worth Rs 2,590 crore and Rs 2,003 crore, respectively.
Mohali and Ludhiana together accounted for 49.8 per cent of investments routed through CAFs during the period, highlighting their growing role as key economic centres in Punjab.
Mann said Mohali was developing rapidly as a technology and innovation destination, with the potential to become a major technology hub. He noted that the district’s expanding IT and technology ecosystem was contributing to the diversification of Punjab’s industrial base.
The Chief Minister said industrial development was also spreading beyond the state’s traditional centres, creating opportunities in different regions and supporting more balanced economic growth.
Punjab’s established strengths in agriculture, manufacturing, engineering, textiles and food processing are being complemented by emerging sectors such as technology, renewable energy, automobiles and modern manufacturing, the statement said.
Several major companies, including Tata Steel, JSW Steel, AICHI Steels, Vardhman, Nestle, Hindustan Lever, Cargill, De Heus, HMEL, Santhan Textiles and Freudenberg, have invested in or expanded their operations in the state.
Mann said the government was working to build an ecosystem conducive to technology firms, start-ups, knowledge-based industries and innovative businesses. The objective, he said, was to provide skilled and educated youth with better employment opportunities within Punjab.
He described the Rs 1.89 lakh crore investment and employment potential of about 6.31 lakh people as significant indicators of the changes taking place in the state’s industrial sector.
