Punjab CM Mann Urges Schoolchildren to Chase Dreams with Honesty and Hard Work

Interacting with students at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the chief minister encourages them to remain determined despite failures and understand the importance of democratic institutions.

CHANDIGARH, Oct 22: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday encouraged school students to set ambitious goals and work towards achieving them with honesty, dedication and perseverance, saying that talent and merit should shape their future.

Mann was interacting with students of Guru Gobind Singh International School, Faridkot, who visited the Punjab Vidhan Sabha complex in Chandigarh.

Describing young people as Punjab’s greatest strength, the chief minister said providing them with opportunities, encouragement and a progressive environment was essential for the state’s development.

He urged the students not to lose confidence when confronted with temporary setbacks and emphasised that determination and consistent effort were crucial to achieving success.

Mann said a person’s achievements should not be judged by their background but by the sincerity, hard work and commitment they demonstrate while pursuing their ambitions.

Sharing lessons from his own life, he encouraged students aspiring to become civil servants, lawyers, doctors and defence officers to begin preparing for their chosen careers without waiting for ideal circumstances.

Referring to former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s views on dreams and determination, Mann said genuine aspirations motivate individuals to continue striving even in difficult situations.

He also advised students against becoming discouraged by examination results or early failures, explaining that setbacks could provide valuable lessons and opportunities for improvement.

Recalling his own electoral defeat, the chief minister said he had lost his first election but continued working with determination. He told the students that failure should not be considered the end of a journey, but an opportunity to learn, strengthen their abilities and make a fresh attempt.

During the interaction, Mann also explained the functioning and importance of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, familiarising the students with the state’s legislative process.

He said the Vidhan Sabha is where bills are introduced, discussed and passed into law, while the state budget is also approved by the elected representatives.

Emphasising the importance of democratic awareness among young people, Mann said students should understand how government institutions operate, how decisions affecting their lives are made and how public representatives are held accountable.

He added that legislative institutions belong to the people and that awareness of democratic processes helps young citizens become more informed and responsible members of society.

The interaction aimed to familiarise students with the functioning of the state legislature while encouraging them to pursue their ambitions with confidence, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
