Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Racket, Nab Kingpin and 5 Aides
Six sophisticated weapons and ₹5.75 lakh hawala money recovered; module operated by foreign-based handlers, says DGP
Chandigarh, Sep 11: Punjab Police on Thursday announced the successful busting of a cross-border organised arms smuggling module with the arrest of six individuals, including the kingpin.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation led to the recovery of six sophisticated weapons and ₹5.75 lakh in hawala money. The syndicate was being run by Mehakpreet Singh alias Rohit under the instructions of foreign-based handlers.
The breakthrough came after Amritsar Police initially apprehended Pargat Singh with two weapons from a cross-border consignment. Subsequent investigations resulted in the arrest of Ajaybir Singh, Karanbir Singh, and Shri Ram with additional arms.
The mastermind, Mehakpreet Singh, was later arrested from Goa with three weapons, while Dinesh Kumar was caught with hawala money linked to the arms trade.
“A case has been registered at Gate Hakima Police Station in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to track forward and backward linkages, and more arrests are likely,” DGP Yadav said in a post on X.
