Rahul Gandhi Accused of Security Protocol Violations, CRPF Alerts Kharge
Paramilitary force cites “unscheduled movements” by Congress leader; warns of risk to high-risk VIP’s safety.
New Delhi, Sept 11: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has raised concerns over alleged security protocol violations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, citing instances of “unscheduled movements” during his domestic and international travels.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is under Z-plus (ASL) security cover, which involves a dedicated team of 10–12 armed CRPF commandos providing proximate protection. As part of the Advanced Security Liaison (ASL), the CRPF conducts reconnaissance of all locations ahead of Gandhi’s visits.
According to official sources, the CRPF’s VIP security unit recently sent a formal letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, highlighting that Gandhi’s unannounced movements without prior intimation posed a “risk” to his safety.
The force stressed that all stipulated VIP security guidelines under the ‘Yellow Book’ must be strictly adhered to by the protectee and his staff. It also reiterated that such communication is “routine” and has been issued in the past as part of standard security protocols.
The CRPF cautioned that any deviation from these procedures could compromise the security of Gandhi, who is classified as a high-risk VIP.
