Rahul Gandhi Alleges PM Modi Ignoring Sabarimala Issue, Questions Religious Commitment

Congress leader alleges BJP and LDF nexus ahead of Kerala Assembly polls

Pathanamthitta (Kerala), March 30: Intensifying his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused him of deliberately avoiding the Sabarimala issue during his recent visit to Kerala, suggesting a tacit understanding between the BJP and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).

Speaking at an election rally in Adoor, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha claimed that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is effectively contesting against a combined front of CPI(M) and BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for April 9.

He asserted that while the political contest appears to be between the UDF and LDF, there exists an underlying alignment between the Left and the BJP. Gandhi described this as a “hidden political arrangement,” alleging that the BJP refrains from challenging the LDF in Kerala due to broader national considerations.

Highlighting his party’s ideological differences, he said the Congress remains the principal force opposing the BJP and its affiliate organisations across the country.

Gandhi also raised concerns over what he termed selective action by central agencies, claiming that opposition leaders frequently face investigations, while leaders of the ruling LDF in Kerala remain largely unaffected.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent address in Palakkad, he noted that despite often invoking religious themes, Modi did not mention the Sabarimala temple or related concerns during his speech. According to Gandhi, this omission reinforces his claim of political coordination between the BJP and the LDF.

He further alleged that religious issues are raised selectively depending on electoral advantages, adding that accountability would be ensured if the UDF comes to power in the state.
