Rahul Gandhi Citizenship Row: Court Schedules Next Hearing for April 15

Lucknow bench reviews plea challenging dismissal of FIR request against Congress leader

Lucknow, Apr 07 : The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has scheduled April 15 as the next date of hearing in the Rahul Gandhi citizenship case. The matter was heard for nearly two hours on Monday in the chamber of Justice Subhash Vidyarthi.

During the proceedings, two officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs arrived from New Delhi and submitted documents linked to the case. The Union government was represented by senior advocate SB Pandey, assisted by Assistant Solicitor General Raj Kumar Singh and advocate Anand Dwivedi, while advocate VK Singh appeared for the state government.

Case Background
The petition was filed by S. Vignesh Shishir, a Bharatiya Janata Party worker from Karnataka, who challenged a January 28 order of the Special MP-MLA Court in Lucknow. The lower court had rejected his plea seeking the registration of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi.

The petitioner has accused the Congress leader, who represents Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha, of violations under multiple laws, including the Indian Penal Code, Official Secrets Act, Foreigners Act, and Passport Act. However, the special court had ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to decide matters related to citizenship.

Originally filed in Rae Bareli, the case was later transferred to Lucknow by the high court in December 2025. After the dismissal of the plea earlier this year, the petitioner approached the high court seeking a fresh review and direction for investigation.
