Rahul Gandhi Extends Support to Danish Ali Amid Controversy Over Derogatory Remarks in Parliament
22-09-2023 : In a response to the derogatory remarks made against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to Danish Ali at his residence in New Delhi. The meeting, which took place in the evening, was a show of solidarity and support for the BSP MP who had faced verbal abuse in the parliament.
After their meeting, Rahul Gandhi expressed his sentiments, stating, “Shop of love in the market of hate (Nafrat ke Bazaar mein Mohabbat ki Dukan).” This statement is a symbolic reflection of unity and the need to counter hatred with love and understanding. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal also met with Danish Ali during this gathering.
The incident that led to this meeting occurred the previous day when Danish Ali was subjected to objectionable remarks by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri within the Lok Sabha. Bidhuri’s comments ignited outrage among Opposition parties, who demanded strict action against him for his disrespectful behavior.
Danish Ali, in response to the incident, issued an ultimatum, stating that he would consider leaving the Parliament if the Speaker did not conduct an inquiry into the matter. He emphasized that Bidhuri’s derogatory comments were not just an affront to him personally but amounted to an insult directed at an entire community.
Taking a swipe at the BJP, Danish Ali questioned whether the party would take any action against Ramesh Bidhuri or if he would be rewarded with inclusion in the central cabinet of ministers. He expressed his concern about the prevalent trend of making such derogatory statements, both inside and outside the Parliament, by BJP leaders.
The BSP leader underscored the gravity of the situation, stating that if elected representatives like him faced such treatment, it raised concerns about the treatment of ordinary citizens. He hoped for a just resolution to the matter and urged the Speaker to conduct a thorough inquiry. Danish Ali lamented that such incidents tarnished the legacy of those who had sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom and expressed his concerns about the state of public discourse in the country.
