Rahul Gandhi Says PM Urging Calm While Panicking Himself

Congress leader targets government over LPG shortage as Opposition MPs protest in Parliament

New Delhi, Mar 12: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing fuel concerns, saying the Prime Minister is advising citizens not to panic while being “panicked himself for completely different reasons.”

The remarks came amid growing debate over the Rahul Gandhi on LPG crisis issue and the reported shortage of commercial LPG cylinders affecting businesses across the country. Gandhi alleged that the Prime Minister’s anxiety was linked to other matters, including the alleged Adani case in the United States and issues related to the Epstein files.

Gandhi’s comments followed a protest by several Opposition Members of Parliament inside the Parliament of India complex. Leaders from parties including the Indian National Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party staged demonstrations near Makar Dwar demanding an explanation from the government regarding the supply crunch.

Among the protesters was Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who joined other women MPs in a symbolic demonstration using a mock brick stove to highlight the impact of the shortage on households and businesses. Protesters raised slogans criticising the government and called for a detailed discussion on the West Asia conflict and its possible consequences for India.

The protest comes at a time when restaurants, catering businesses and street food vendors in several cities are facing disruptions due to reduced availability of commercial LPG cylinders. Many establishments are exploring alternatives such as induction cooktops, microwaves and firewood to keep kitchens running as supply uncertainties continue.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister had urged citizens to remain calm, assuring that the government is taking steps to protect public interests and address the situation. Authorities and oil companies have also maintained that domestic LPG supplies for households remain secure despite global disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia.
