Rahul Gandhi Tells Congress MPs Govt ‘Under Pressure’ on Vande Mataram, Poll Reforms

Rahul Gandhi praises Congress MPs for strong interventions on Vande Mataram, election reforms, and key public issues.

New Delhi, Dec 12: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday commended his party MPs for their strong performance during the debates on Vande Mataram and election reforms, saying the government appeared to be “under pressure” from the opposition on both issues, party sources said.

Gandhi chaired a meeting of Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha, where he listened to their feedback and reviewed their interventions in the ongoing session. According to sources, he noted that the opposition’s arguments had “put the government on the back foot” during the high-profile debates.

Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said the meeting also highlighted the party’s success in raising pressing public concerns, including IndiGo flight disruptions, severe air pollution and issues related to labour codes.

Gogoi said both Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Lok Sabha effectively countered attempts to politicise the Vande Mataram anniversary debate. He added that Rahul Gandhi had directly challenged the Union Home Minister on “vote chori” during the election reforms discussion, prompting “rattled” reactions and alleged unparliamentary remarks.

Congress chief whip K. Suresh described the gathering as a routine review meeting held every session to evaluate MPs’ performance and gather their input.

While the Vande Mataram debate has concluded in both Houses, discussions on election reforms are still underway in the Rajya Sabha.
