Rahul Gandhi Visits Srinagar to Meet Victims of Pahalgam Terror Attack, Carries Message of Healing and Solidarity

SRINAGAR, April 25: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, arrived in Srinagar on Friday to meet and express solidarity with those injured in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. A senior Congress leader confirmed that Gandhi’s visit aims to bring a message of empathy, unity, and healing to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those directly affected by the April 22 tragedy that claimed the lives of 26 individuals—most of them tourists—and left several others wounded.

As part of his itinerary, Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit the Army’s Base Hospital located within the Badamibagh Cantonment to personally enquire about the condition of the injured and offer words of support and encouragement to them and their families. His presence is being seen as a gesture of compassion at a time when the region is reeling from the shock of the brutal attack.

In addition to meeting the victims, Gandhi will engage with various delegations representing the Congress party, as well as stakeholders from the trade and tourism sectors—industries that have taken a direct hit from the incident. These interactions are aimed at understanding the on-ground impact of the attack and offering reassurance that their voices are being heard at the national level.

The Congress leader is also expected to hold separate meetings with key regional figures, including the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. These discussions are likely to focus on the security situation in the Union Territory, the safety of minorities and tourists, and the need for sustained peace-building efforts.

Highlighting the urgency and seriousness with which he views the situation, Rahul Gandhi reportedly cut short his scheduled visit to the United States to return to India. He attended a crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee held in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack and also participated in an all-party meeting convened by the central government to brief national leaders on the attack and the steps being taken to address the threat.

A Congress spokesperson noted, “Rahul Gandhi has come to Kashmir with a message of solidarity, healing, and national unity. His visit is not political but deeply humane, aimed at standing with the victims and conveying to the people of Kashmir that they are not alone in their grief.”
