Rahul Gandhi will chair a crucial meeting with Jammu and Kashmir leaders ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections
Top Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir are gathering in New Delhi for strategic discussions on election preparations.
Jammu, 07-08-2024: Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and AICC Vice President is set to chair a crucial meeting with top leaders from Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi tomorrow evening. This important meeting, scheduled to take place at the All India Congress Committee office at 6 pm, comes ahead of the Assembly elections and follows the Election Commission of India’s planned visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The visit aims to assess the security situation in light of recent increases in terrorist activities and will include interactions with leaders from various political parties and other stakeholders.
The meeting will see the participation of prominent Congress figures, including JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani, Working President Raman Bhalla, AICC General Secretary and former JKPCC Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Tariq Hamid Karra, former JKPCC President Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed, former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, former MP and Minister Ch Lal Singh, JKPCC Senior Vice President and former Minister Mula Ram, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, and Senior Vice President Ghulam Nabi Monga. Additionally, AICC General Secretary (Org) K C Venugopal, Party General Secretary and Incharge J&K Affairs Bharat Singh Solanki, and AICC Co-incharge Manoj Yadav are expected to attend.
Rahul Gandhi is going to ask J&K politicians for their opinions on the present state of affairs in the area and the impending Assembly elections. The leaders’ opinions and recommendations on how to improve the Congress party’s standing in Jammu and Kashmir are expected to be shared. In light of the impending Assembly elections, the gathering is viewed as a critical step in the party’s attempts to resurrect its influence, especially in the Jammu region.
The Congress party is also expected to discuss the possibility of forming alliances with like-minded parties for the upcoming elections. The party high command will gather suggestions from the J&K leaders on various issues, including terrorist activities, the current political climate, and the party’s prospects in Kashmir, Jammu, the Doda region, and the Pir Panjal belt.
JKPCC Chief Spokesperson and Senior Vice President Ravinder Sharma confirmed the meeting, noting that the invitation was extended by AICC General Secretary (Org) K C Venugopal. Sharma added that today’s meeting involved top Congress leadership and leaders from Jharkhand. The upcoming meeting with J&K Congress leaders will address key issues related to the Assembly elections, overall security, potential alliances, and poll strategy.
JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla emphasized that the party is holding meetings with senior leadership from various States and UTs, including J&K, Jharkhand, Haryana, and Maharashtra, in preparation for the elections scheduled for September-October. The objective is to gather feedback and develop fresh strategies. Bhalla highlighted that separate screening committees have been formed to identify potential candidates, with a focus on the security situation and organizational affairs likely to dominate discussions during the meeting.
