‘Rahul Gandhi’s Position Is Mandated by the People, Not a Courtesy,’ Says Nizamuddin Bhat
Congress MLA says opposition remarks lack substance, asserts mandate-driven authority
Jammu, February 19, 2026: Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat on Thursday rejected comments by certain leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) calling for the removal of Rahul Gandhi from a leadership role within the INDIA alliance, describing the remarks as politically motivated and without merit.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly complex in Jammu, Bhat said shifting political narratives should not be given undue significance. He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi, as president of the Congress party and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, holds a defined and legitimate position in national politics.
“Rahul Gandhi occupies his place by the mandate of the people of India and the commitment of Congress workers, not by anyone’s courtesy,” Bhat said. He added that opposition to Gandhi’s leadership reflects a viewpoint lacking substance and should not distract from broader political objectives.
