Rajnath Singh Leads First IGoM Meeting on West Asia, Urges Proactive and Coordinated Strategy

Centre reviews sector wise impact, stresses coordination and long-term resilience amid evolving geopolitical tensions

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the inaugural meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) to assess the rapidly changing situation in West Asia, urging a forward looking and well coordinated national response.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the group conducted a comprehensive review of the developments and evaluated their potential implications across key sectors in India. The Defence Minister highlighted the importance of staying alert and adopting a strategic, proactive approach to address emerging challenges.

The meeting, held at Kartavya Bhawan-2, saw participation from several senior ministers, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, among others.

Seven Empowered Groups of Secretaries (EGoS) presented detailed updates on sector specific concerns and outlined measures already implemented to mitigate potential disruptions. Rajnath Singh directed officials to maintain close monitoring, ensure swift decision making, and align policies for effective execution within set timelines.

He also emphasized the need for strong coordination between central agencies, state governments, and district administrations, along with clear communication to the public to prevent misinformation. Ministries were instructed to share verified updates through official channels to counter rumours and fake news effectively.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Rajnath Singh stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard national interests and minimize any adverse impact of the ongoing conflict.
