Ramban-Gool Road Closed Again Due to Fresh Land Sinking in Parnote Area, Disrupting Local Connectivity
Raman, 19-06-2024 : Due to a recent occurrence of land sinking in the Parnote area near Ramban, authorities have taken the precautionary step of closing the Ramban-Gool road on Wednesday. This closure has impacted connectivity to several local hamlets, according to reports from residents.
Basheer-Ul-Haq Choudary, Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, confirmed that the decision to temporarily close the Ramban-Gool road was made after monitoring the unstable land conditions. Initially, this route had been functioning adequately for approximately a month. However, recent developments have seen the resumption of land sinking, prompting the closure. Choudary assured that alternative routes like the Digdol-Sumbal-Sangaldan-Gool road and rail connectivity remain operational, ensuring continued access for residents and travelers.
He further clarified that preemptive measures had been taken to relocate individuals residing in the affected areas to safer locations, ensuring their safety amidst these developments.
Earlier in April this year, the Ramban-Gool road had been closed due to similar incidents of land subsidence. It was temporarily reopened for light passenger vehicles on May 28 by GREF (General Reserve Engineer Force). The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had subsequently conducted a detailed examination and submitted a comprehensive report highlighting the causes of land subsidence in the Parnote area. The report included recommendations aimed at preventing future mudflow slides and emphasized the importance of exercising caution by avoiding agricultural or residential activities in the affected zone until it is deemed secure.
The administration continues to monitor the situation closely, prioritizing public safety and ensuring minimal disruption to essential services and transportation routes in the region.
