Rana reviews JPDCL functioning in Poonch, calls for accelerated RDSS implementation

JAMMU, APRIL 28: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Tuesday reviewed the functioning of Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited in Poonch district, with a special focus on expediting implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

The meeting was attended by the Managing Director JPDCL, Chief Engineer and other senior officials, who briefed the Minister on the current status of works and outlined the roadmap for accelerated implementation of RDSS in the district.

The Minister conducted a detailed review of the scheme’s progress, examining key components such as the material supply chain, feeder-wise execution of works besides the availability and installation of critical infrastructure, including electric poles, conductors, LT AB cables and transformers.

Terming RDSS a transformative initiative aimed at modernising and strengthening the power distribution sector, he stressed the need for improved efficiency, strict accountability and proactive planning. He directed the officials to identify bottlenecks promptly and ensure their timely resolution to maintain momentum.

Expressing concern over the slow pace of progress in parts of the district, the Minister instructed the officers to expedite ongoing works and remove all impediments. He reiterated the government’s commitment towards ensuring reliable and equitable power supply, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

Highlighting the importance of planned development, Rana cautioned against the haphazard installation of infrastructure. He emphasised that deployment of poles and related assets must follow proper technical planning, with priority given to rural and far-flung regions that have historically lagged in infrastructure.

Underscoring the need for accountability at all levels, the Minister also called for regular on-site inspections to ensure adherence to quality standards and timelines. He stressed the importance of maintaining geo-tagged photographic records of each project site to enhance transparency, monitoring and real-time tracking of progress.

He also directed that any leftover works be taken up under CAPEX or other suitable schemes to ensure their completion within stipulated timelines.
